Auger Boring is mainly used in dry, loose soil. An auger encased in a protective steel pipe transmits torque from the drive to the cutter head, which excavates the soil. At the same time, the auger conveys the excavated material from the face to the launching shaft.
Controlled or uncontrolled equipment can be used depending on the drive length and the degree of precision required. In the case of longer boreholes and a high degree of precision, a controlled pilot hole is first drilled to the receiving shaft and monitored permanently using an optical measurement system. The borehole can then be enlarged using a range of reaming methods depending on the desired diameter. Once the required diameter has been achieved, the product pipe is then pushed in.
